Guru.com is a popular online marketplace, which acts as a connecting platform for freelancers and job providers related to the IT industry. The owners of Guru.com brands it as the “World’s largest online service marketplace.” This dynamic portal provides freelancers with commissioned work. The website has a database of employers and freelancers related to 160 different fields.
Unlike its competitors Guru.com does not have any subscription fee. Registration is free for both freelancers and employers. The employers can post an assignment and the freelancers can start bidding on a project right after signing up. Once a deal is finalized and a freelancer is awarded an assignment, the freelancer can ask for an upfront amount through Escrow. The upfront remains safely deposited in the Escrow account until project completion. Once the work is delivered, the freelancer can get the payment through a medium of choice.
Employers prefer Guru.com because it is one of the few online marketplaces where the job providers don’t have to pay anything. Guru.com charges 5% -10% of the total project value from the freelancers. The marketplace has 3 kinds of memberships for the freelancers: the basic membership, which is free, the Guru membership and the guru Vendor membership, both of which are paid. Freelancers are charged 2% by Escrow for the safety offered to their earnings.
