This book was a great read for a graphic designer and even a photographer for that matter because the same principles apply. The design and layout of the book actually caught my attention first while looking at a Barnes and Noble. However, I knew that Amazon would be the place to go for the best price.
After receiving the book I read it within two weeks. It’s nice that it answers a lot of the questions you might have as a designer, and gives you some insight on how things work. And also, it’s not just coming from the author, so it’s not biased like you would think. The book is full of interviews and quotes from successful freelance artists.
Most importantly, I liked this book because it doesn’t dwell on the highlights of being a freelance designer. It tells you about the darker side as well, such as becoming a work-a-holic. The fact that not all companies want to pay you right away. And the fact that you may not have money coming in for quite some time, and that your bills still come every month. But the fact of the matter is you begin to think about these things, and it will help you plan better for your career as a freelancer.
Great book to add to your arsenal. As an experienced freelance designer of about 4 years now, I can relate to a lot of ideas/concepts being discussed in the book. So far I’ve always had a full time job to pay the bills, while I grow my freelance clientele. But someday, I will be a full time photographer and designer, and I will have a better grasp on the ups and downs having read this book!

Awesome book. Easy read with lots of images
(as a graphic designer I need it to have images or anything visual to keep my attention).
It talks about many of the issues to consider when planning on going on your own. Even if in the end you decide that being on your own is not for you, it gives you references on situations you will probably face on those occasional freelance jobs you take.
